Knitting cardigan
The Encelia Cardigan embodies feminine elegance. It's knitted in Top Hair, an ultra-soft wool made from mohair and silk. It has a straight cut with set-in sleeves and a rounded neckline. The cardigan buttons up the front like a cardigan. Its fancy stitching, slightly raised, forms a grid of small holes and adds charm to the garment.
Wear the cardigan open over an undershirt or shirt, or closed with trousers, a pencil skirt or jeans.
How do I knit the waistcoat?
The Encelia Waistcoat is knitted using 4.5 needles for the body and n°4 needles for the edges and neckline. To make it, you need to master the fancy stitch:
- Knit knit and purl stitches
- Increasing and decreasing stitches
- Knitting double stitches
- Pick up stitches
- Assembly
If you're familiar with these techniques, you can try your hand at this pattern. Knitting beginners who have already mastered stockinette will benefit from practising the fancy stitch beforehand and getting help to lift the stitches.
Customisation
Top Hair wool is available in a wide range of colours. Choose the one that suits you best. Then select the size you want to knit. If necessary, use the size guide to help you determine your size.
The knitting kit
The kit contains everything you need to make the Encelia Waistcoat: balls of wool in the chosen colour, mother-of-pearl buttons dyed in the same colour as the yarn, optional knitting needles, a small 24-carat gold sewing heart to sign your work and the knitting pattern with step-by-step explanations and dimensional diagrams for sizes S, M, L and XL.
To make this pattern, you'll also need a few tools, like a pair of scissors, a tape measure, a stitch holder (optional) and a wool needle. Visit our Haberdashery page to buy your tools.
Care
Top Hair is a top-of-the-range wool that needs a little care if it is to last a long time. Space your washes out and use little detergent. If you notice a bad smell, air the jumper for a few hours.
Wash by hand or in the washing machine if it has a wool balance programme. The temperature of the wash and rinse water should be constant and <30°C. Do not rub, but apply pressure in succession. Rinse with clean water without adding fabric softener. Squeeze without wringing or <600 rpm. Dry flat in a ventilated area.
Mohair cannot be ironed.
Store flat in an uncluttered place and change places regularly to avoid creasing.
